Public Housing

Highlands Residential Services has 497 conventional public housing units. These homes are located in Algood, Baxter, Celina, Cookeville, Gainesboro and Monterey.

Public Housing

Public housing is for lower-income individuals and families that earn less than 80% of the area median income. Tenants of this program’s dwellings pay approximately 30% of their adjusted income for rent.

Section 8 Units

Cookeville’s Walnut Village represents 80 apartments. These units are designated for the elderly and disabled. They are conveniently located across from the Cookeville Senior Citizens Center and are close to grocery stories, banks, a post office and several health care providers.

Rental assistance for private housing units designated for the elderly and disabled and subsidized with a Housing Assistance Payment contract with HUD.

Low-Income Tax Credits

In 2000, by utilizing Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, we completed 30 housing units for individuals age 62 and older. These apartments are conveniently located in a quiet cul-de-sac off Willow Avenue and are close to grocery stores, banks, a post office and health care providers.

Low-Income Housing Tax Credit units were acquired, constructed and /or rehabilitated by private developers with government subsidies.
